Test your knowledge and lets see if you think this is a Hazard:
If you had a circuit that was blowing a fuse or tripping breaker, do you believe that the solution is to replace the fuse or breaker with a larger size? If you just said yes then you answered incorrectly. The answer is NO. A fuse or circuit breaker should never be replaced with another of a larger size or rating.
Ok, Next Question:
Do you know why should never do this?
Here’s the answer: Because every circuit is protected according to the SIZE and TYPE of Wire that is installed. Aluminum and Copper wiring is found in most homes except for Aluminum which is prohibited from being installed in mobile homes and in some areas which restrict the use of aluminum wire. Aluminum wiring is mainly used for larger circuits such as ovens and panel feeds. Electrical wiring is protected by different types of insulation materials that are designed for certain applications and each insulation type is rated according to the temperature which the insulation can withstand for the specific application. This is why it is a good idea that the electrician should check to see that the wire sizes and types are correctly matched to the size of each fuse or circuit breaker. An over rated fuse or circuit breaker would allow an under rated wire to exceeded its rated capacity which could cause an overheated condition which could lead to a fire.
So – Do you know what the best solution is if you have an Overloaded Circuit?
