How To Convert a Dryer Electrical Outlet and Wire the Cord

We removed an old electric clothes dryer from my parents 50+ year old home.

  • The electrical outlet it was plugged into is 250V 50A.
  • I wish to purchase a replacement electrical dryer but understand they are all 240V.
  • Can this be done? Can the 240V plug be converted to use a 250V 50A plug? Is it safe?
  • Or would it simply be easier to run 240V from the box?

Thank You
