Electrical Wiring: 3 phase wiring air conditioner

Electrical Wiring Question:

On a 3 phase wire system, does it matter what the orientation of the BLACK, RED and BLUE is when hooking up an industrial AC unit?

And if so can it make the compressor run backwards?

Thanks,

Chad.

Hi Chad - Great Question!
When connecting any motor to 3 phase power you could find that the rotation is wrong, and if it is all you have to do is shut off the power and swap any two lines of the 3 phase power and this will change the rotation.

If you need to have the rotation correct the first time then simply get a phase rotation meter that can be used to see what the rotation is before you connect to the equipment

Be very careful when working with 3-phase power.
