Lights Dim When Dryer Starts

Possible Causes of Dim Lights

I live in a two year old two story single home dwelling.

  • The power source is standard 240 with a 200 amp 40 space 40 circuit breaker panel.
  • I have five 220 dedicated breakers.
  • The problem I am having is, no matter what the load is in my house, my lights, mainly the recessed lights dim badly when the dryer or any other 240 appliances are turned on.
  • It seems like it is getting slowly worse.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your electrical question Robert.

Electrical Panels and Electric Dryer Circuits

  1. Robert, all of the electrical wiring connections should be checked at the electrical panel, especially the lighting circuit.
  2. This may be an indication of a loose electrical connection or a deteriorating connection with one of the main incoming lines at the panel as well.
  3. This should be checked by an experienced electrical contractor.
