Preventing An Electrical Fire Hazard

NEVER Replace a Circuit Breaker With A Larger Size!
Background: Curtis, a Handywoman from Kaysville, Utah

Question: Can I replace a 15 amp double pole with a 30 amp double pole breaker. Home is 1980′s single wide trailer.
Half the outlets wont support my ac unit. And is there a way to get a wiring diagram of my trailer.

Additional Comments: Finally somewhere I can get an answer before burning down my home. thanks

Dave’s Reply:
Thanks for your electrical question Curtis. Do NOT replace any size circuit breaker with a larger one! Doing so will create a serious fire hazard. The circuit breaker is sized to protect the circuit wiring from an overloaded condition which could cause a fire.
Most air conditioners require their own dedicated circuit. The manufacturer of your trailer may have a set of As-Built Plans, otherwise you may create a sketch of the electrical circuits by turning individual circuit breakers off and using a circuit tester, drop-light or radio to see when the power is turned off and on.
