Install a 30 Amp 220 Volt Dryer Circuit

Application: Installing a 220 Volt Dryer Circuit.
Skill Level: Intermediate to Advanced, Best installed by a Licensed Electrical Contractor. Work in electrical panels is not recommended for homeowners, non-experienced individuals or non-electricians.
Tools Required: Basic Electricians Pouch Hand Tools, electric drill,  auger bits and extension cord.
Estimated Time: Depends on personal level experience, ability to work with tools and install 220 volt electrical circuit wiring.
Precaution: Identify the main circuit of the panel, turn it OFF and Tag it with a Note before working with the wiring or installing the 220 volt wiring and circuit breaker.
Notice: Installing a 220 volt dryer circuit should be done according to local and national electrical codes with a permit and be inspected.

  • Wire Size for Dryer
    The wire size for a 30amp dryer circuit is #10AWG copper.
  • Electric Dryer Circuit Cable
    The typical cable used for a dryer circuit is 10/3 Type NM cable which has three insulated wires and a bare ground wire, totaling four wires in all.
  • Receptacle Outlet for a Dryer
    The dryer circuit wiring connects to a NEMA 14-30 4-wire  250 volt receptacle outlet.

    i need to wire a washing machine to an isolation switch , but the wire inside the box is thicker than the plug wire , is this safe to do ?
